Collagen

Origin and history

Collagen is a protein naturally present in the human body, where it accounts for approximately 30% of all proteins. Its name comes from the Greek word kolla, meaning "glue," in reference to its essential role in tissue cohesion and structure. Discovered in the 19th century, collagen is now widely used in cosmetics and dietary supplements for its effects on the skin, joints, and overall vitality.

There are several types of collagen: type I (found in the skin and tendons), type II (in cartilage), and type III (in soft tissues).
