Origin and history
Lemon eucalyptus, scientifically known as Eucalyptus citriodora , is native to Australia, where it grows naturally in the warm, humid regions of Queensland. Introduced to many tropical countries, it is now cultivated in Africa, Madagascar, India, and Brazil. Its fresh, lemony scent, quite different from that of other eucalyptus trees, is due to its high citronellal content, an aromatic compound known for its soothing and repellent properties. Local populations have long used it to relieve joint pain and repel insects.
