Origin and history
Marigold, also known as French marigold , is a perennial plant native to Mexico, used since pre-Columbian times. The Aztecs considered it a sacred flower , a symbol of the sun and regeneration. Introduced to Europe in the 16th century, it quickly became popular for its abundant blooms, vibrant colors, and numerous medicinal and aromatic uses. In modern herbal medicine, marigold is recognized for its soothing, antioxidant, and skin- and eye-protective properties .
