The "Dancing Mushroom"
In traditional Chinese medicine, maitake is known as the mushroom of health and youth. It has also been used in Japan for centuries. It has only been cultivated since 1979. Before that, it was only found in the wild. Given its high value, it is said that those who discovered a maitake mushroom danced with joy. Hence its nickname, "dancing mushroom."
Maitake contains grifolan (a beta-D-glycan) and polysaccharides.
