Fig tree

Origin and history

The fig tree, a symbol of abundance and sweetness, is one of the oldest fruit trees cultivated by humankind. Native to the Mediterranean basin and Asia Minor, it was already known in ancient Egypt and among the Greeks for its nutritious fruit and digestive properties. A sacred tree in many cultures, it represents peace, fertility, and wisdom. In biblical tradition, the fig leaf symbolizes modesty and rebirth. Today, it is valued as much for its delicious fruit as for its benefits to the digestive and nervous systems.
