Origin and history
The guelder rose, also called snowball viburnum or viburnum oberinum for the beauty of its flowers, is a plant native to temperate regions of Europe and Asia. Used for centuries in traditional medicine, it was renowned for its soothing effects on women's and muscular pain. Native Americans used it under the name cramp bark to relieve spasms and tension. In modern herbal medicine, the guelder rose is recognized as a relaxing, antispasmodic, and menstrual cycle regulator .
