Origin and history
Electrolytes are essential minerals that, once dissolved in water, transform into positively or negatively charged ions. These ions participate in many vital functions: regulating hydration, muscle and nerve function, acid-base balance, and maintaining blood pressure. The main electrolytes are sodium , potassium , calcium , magnesium , chloride , phosphate , and bicarbonate .
Naturally present in the body, they must be regularly renewed through diet, especially during physical exertion or high temperatures, as they are eliminated through sweat.
